FRIENDSWOOD
Friendswood is a growing community that has been a part of the southeast Texas landscape since 1895. Frank Jacob Brown and Thomas Hadley Lewis founded the area as a Quaker community. Friendswood´s early growth owes itself to the ease of growing of figs, oranges and rice. Later in the 20th Century, the newly developing oil fields east and west of the community provided jobs for more newcomers.
Today, Friendswood encompasses 21 square miles with areas in either Harris or Galveston counties and is only 50 percent developed. It is conveniently located halfway between Houston and Galveston and is a mere three miles off of Interstate 45.

Education
• Public (K-12): Friendswood Harris County students are served by the Clear Creek Independent School District while Galveston County students are in the Friendswood Independent School District.
CCISD has approximately 32,000 students in 34 schools and has earned a "recognized" status from the Texas Education Agency accountability rating system. The "recognized" rating is the highest designation earned to date by any school district with more than 25,000 students. Clear Creek ISD is the 28th largest of the 1,046 school districts in Texas.
FISD serves more than 5,200 students in six schools and has been awarded an "exemplary status from the Texas Education Agency accountability rating system. The district´s graduation rate is an amazing 97.4 percent and approximately 94 percent of seniors plan to pursue higher education.
• Colleges: San Jacinto College: Friendswood residents have easy access to the San Jacinto College System. As a comprehensive community college, San Jacinto College offers a broad range of academic, technical, customized and non-credit courses at three full-service campuses and six extension centers.
