LA PORTE

In 1892, La Porte was founded by real estate speculators who promoted the land as being ideal for citrus crops. Though the region´s gumbo soil made it inhospitable to many crops, some early settlers remained to build a resort town on the shores of Galveston Bay. Many Hosuton families built summer homes along the waterfront to take advantages of the cool breezes along the bay.

Modern-day La Porte is home to more than 17,000 residents on 19 square miles of land. Located just 35 minutes from Houston, residents take advantage of numerous outdoor activities inlcuding fishing, tennis, golf and swimming or just enjoying Galveston Bay.

DEER PARK

Simeon Henry West settled in this area and visualized a city, recording a plat of the out lots of the town of Deer Park in December 1892. The city attracted many residents but the Flood of 1900 drove almost all of them away. Mr. West´s dream was revitalized in 1928 when Shell Oil Company broke ground on a new refinery.

Deer Park celebrated its 100th birthday in February 1992 and it has become the dream location Mr. West envisioned. Today, Deer Park has approximately 9,000 homes and more than 30,000 residents.
