 Located 50 miles south of Houston, on an island off the coast of Texas is the town of Galveston, Texas. During the height of the recent housing boom, Galveston was marketed mostly as a vacation home area for folks in and around the Houston area.
Galveston HistoryNicknamed "The Oleander City" Galveston was first settled in 1816. In the 1900 Galveston gained importance as a major port city in the Gulf of Mexico for the US. Galveston´s income is mostly based from tourism, healthcare and shipping industries.
Galveston has six historical districts which contain large collection of 19 century buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
